The Environment
KAI believes in taking particular care and attention to the environment and settings in which children learn. The choices about the environment that we create for children greatly affect the play and learning, how they experience and are intentional about their time, and begin to understand and theorize about the world around them within our schools and homes. Children spend significant time in early years settings and primary schools, and therefore the environment and spaces should reflect our beliefs about how children learn and support their deep, inner need to explore, experiment, wonder, be curious, imagine, and play. Learning spaces should be inviting, open, carefully crafted spaces in where children can be inspired and interact with beautiful materials and natural elements, build, construct knowledge, be inquisitive and observe, feel a sense of adventure, experiment with risk taking, be independent, and find an area or special space to be themselves.
