Raising Creativity: Inspiring Learning and Making Thinking Visible in the Primary Classroom
Encouraging children to explore, creatively make connections, and be inquisitive are key components that contribute to their intellectual success. In this interactive workshop, attendees will learn and experience how inquiry and project based learning environments, the arts, nature, writing, poetry, iPads, and the world around us are used to enhance children's abilities in creativity, build understanding, and make thinking visible in primary classrooms. Attendees will see how children use the arts, writing, and specific apps to look deeply, observe closely, capture moments of inspiration, and document the process of learning as they pursue their questions in meaningful contexts. Developing inquiry-based learning environments that honor children, support their wonderings and capabilities, and document their experiences as they construct knowledge alongside adults will be discussed. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in a creative process and work individually and collaboratively with iPads. Come experience firsthand how your students can engage in inquiry-based projects and how simple this step into technology can be as they pursue their questions, share their understanding, create content, summarize, synthesize, and reflect upon their experiences.

Workshops and presentations
Our workshops are aimed to inspire and empower educators to integrate the arts, creativity, nature, and innovation into their learning contexts, frameworks, and pedagogy. These workshops are informative, interactive, and collaborative. The following are some of the topics and partnerships that are most commonly focused on with our clients.
CONTEXTS THAT INSPIRE CREATIVITY AND CURIOSITY IN PROJECT BASED LEARNING
How can we as educators nurture the creativity of our children by providing real and meaningful contexts and materials that provoke inquisitiveness and encourage tinkering and a willingness to explore? What does a teacher’s role look like as we research the world alongside our children? Why is teacher collaboration a powerful tool for project based learning? In this workshop, participants will gain insight into the how and where to begin inquiry-based projects with their students. Teachers will experience firsthand the project-based learning process as they engage in their own inquiry within different contexts and mediums and gain strategies for how to inspire their students to be curious and look closely. Attendees will also explore ways to make thinking and learning visible on the iPad and set-up digital portfolios to document, organize, and share their students’ processes of learning.
THE IMPORTANCE OF PLAY
Play is an opportunity to tap into children’s natural ability for learning and create opportunities for deeper learning and more student engagement. This interactive workshop focuses on the importance of learning through play.
INQUIRY BASED LEARNING
This workshop focuses on following a child's lead and providing contexts that inspire learning and provoke questioning in inquiry based learning environments.
CREATIVE DRAMATICS: THEATER INTO WRITING
The workshop starts with an overview of how theater can support writing and the Writers' Workshop across grade levels. An in-depth look at how educators can build on and document the process will follow. Participants will have an opportunity to experience theater exercises as well.
USING IPADS TO BUILD CONNECTIONS AND CAPTURE THINKING
iPads allow children to be involved in building their understanding, documenting their experiences, and reflecting on the learning process. Keiki Arts Innovation (KAI) will share how to document the learning journey, integrating the arts and iPad technology into primary classrooms. Real examples will be offered that are easily transferrable to any learning environment and participants will have the opportunity to explore these activities for themselves through samples of digital portfolios and student work using Explain Everything, QR codes, and iMovie.
RAISING CREATIVE MINDS: EXPLORING AND MAKING CONNECTIONS WITH THE ARTS AND IPADS
Keiki Arts Innovation (KAI) believes in the importance of developing a strong foundation in literacy and teaching through the Arts. This fosters creative thinking skills and encourages children to develop close observation skills as they step into the world. When children experience while they paint, draw, photograph, and video, they slow down, look with new perspectives, notice details, write with passion, and understand more deeply. Through drawing, writing, and iPad exploration, participants will have the opportunity to experience different methods utilizing Explain Everything, Remind, QR codes, and iMovie.
BRAIN SYMPOSIUM ~ DESIGN THE LEARNING
This presentation focuses on strategies for developing integrated, inquiry-based learning opportunities based on current brain research in early education.
CHILDREN AS RESEARCHERS
Participants will learn how the arts, nature, and iPads can be integrated in an inquiry-based primary classroom to enhance a childʻs abilities in problem solving, creativity, and reflection. Developing experiences based on the childrenʻs questions cultivate their knowledge and inspire deeper understanding. Keiki Arts Innovation (KAI) will share how painting, writing, and photography foster creative thinking skills as children research and observe their environment closely. Leveraging technology allows for children to be more involved in documenting and reflecting on the process of their learning experiences.
